Social Life

ImageSocial Life:

Everyone at Camphill Village enjoys a lively and varied social life: small gatherings in our houses with games, stories, or music; shopping trips; outings to restaurants or to go bowling; swimming at the local high school; picnics and hikes; concerts, plays, and dances.

The Café becomes a weekend meeting place for villagers to enjoy the friendships they have formed.  A poetry group offers regular poetry readings and occasional Friday night concerts in the Café provide an evening of engaging entertainment.

The Village Library and Coffee Shop is a relatively new addition to Camphill Village’s social landscape. Thanks to the generosity of The Soubry Family, the Village Library now has over 400 books and nearly 200 classical music CDs, an internet-connected computer, DVDs, audiobooks, subscriptions, and programming for all villagers to enjoy. In the Coffee Shop, an espresso machine donated by the Steffey Family provides a variety of coffees to all who visit, and cookies and tea are also available. The Village Library and Coffee Shop is open Tuesdays-Saturdays (9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.).

Because everyone at Camphill Village works, lives, and learns together, meaningful relationships and friendships abound, many of which last for twenty, thirty, or even forty years.

The Youth Seminar meets every Friday and serves as a social and educational group for newcomers. The youth group has taken field trips to museums and other fun and educational sites, and learns about a variety of topics ranging from anthroposophy to technology.
