Family Day & Special Needs Planning Workshop
Family Day 2009 welcomed the Wilson Family and the Warga Family as the newest members of the Camphill Village community. Nearly 500 family members visited — many from as far away as Georgia, Florida, and California. At the start of the day, the Ensemble’s music filled the Hall and villagers shared their travel experiences to international Camphill conferences in several European countries, other Camphill communities, and a “misty” visit to Niagara Falls. In the spring, we’ll all enjoy hundreds of bulbs that were planted by the families around our houses.
Family members also learned about how to approach estate planning with a eye toward future care planning for adults with special needs. Seasoned parents shared their experiences, discussing asset caps, special and supplemental needs trusts, sibling roles, pooled income trusts like the Camphill Resident’s Trust, and planned giving. We’ll have a panel session on Brothers and Sisters Day in June to continue the discussion, but if you have questions meanwhile, please contact Angela Lomanto, Director of Development, (518) 329-7924 x148.
The Camphill Resident's Trust invests and manages funds for the benefit of individuals who have special needs providing extra and supplemental items for the beneficiary's care, comfort, welfare, education or training without causing a loss of government benefits. These trusts provide directly for the needs of an individual and a board of Trustees make decisions regarding the distribution of funds and act as advocates for those with special needs.
