Caring for the Earth
Camphill Village is dedicated to using sustainable environmentally-responsible practices, technologies, and equipment, and that commitment is obvious in daily life:
- Every house and work place recycles paper, cardboard, wood, metal, bottles, and tin/aluminum cans. Waste is collected for composting and the estate crew collects recyclables and composting materials weekly.
- Low-energy light bulbs are used in our outdoor lights, corridors, utility spaces, and workshops. High-efficiency IR-halogen bulbs are used in the Fountain Hall auditorium.
- Three of our houses, Brookledge, Russet, and Columbine, utilize solar panels for their energy needs.
- All of the vehicles driven at Camphill Village or either hybrid vehicles or highly fuel efficient.
- Our houses and workshops are outfitted with programmable digital thermostats.
- Our houses are outfitted with low-usage water fixtures.
