Communications and Public Relations Manager (Full Time)

Camphill Village USA is seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial-minded individual to lead the organization’s communications and PR initiatives. Candidates with strong leadership, writing, speaking and organizational skills will be considered. Three year’s minimum experience working in communications, public relations or development is required.

About Camphill Village USA

Part of the worldwide Camphill movement, Camphill Village USA is the oldest and largest Camphill community in North America. CVUSA’s mission is to provide stable homes, meaningful work and a robust social and spiritual life for adults with developmental disabilities and the service volunteers who live and work alongside them. Camphill Village is an intentional community located in Columbia County, NY, approximately 120 miles north of NYC. The founding of CVUSA in 1961 was part of a transformative movement in the United States to reform how society treats people with disabilities. Instead of isolation and institutionalization, exclusion and separation, CVUSA celebrates and honors the uniqueness, dignity and spiritual integrity of each individual, regardless of outward appearance or perceived disability. Located on 615 acres of farmland, wooded hills and gardens, CVUSA is also a leader in biodynamic organic agriculture and sustainable farming techniques. 

Communications and Public Relations Manager, Full Time Position

Strategize and implement a range of integrated communications initiatives that will support CVUSA’s mission and goals to targeted local, regional and national communities that will further the short and long-term objectives of Camphill Village USA.

Responsible for guiding the strategy for all communications, web site, social media and public relations messages and collateral materials to consistently articulate the mission of Camphill Village and its initiatives. Plan and manage community building and other special events consistent with CVUSA’s mission and strategic goals.

Specific Responsibilities include: Assist the director of development to create, implement and evaluate CVUSA’s annual communications plan; develop communications vehicles; manage the development, distribution and maintenance of all print and electronic communications materials including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, annual reports, invitations, and the CVUSA web site; manage web site maintenance and ensure that new and consistent information is posted regularly; lead the generation of online content to engage constituents, including web site and social medial channels; create, implement and evaluate comprehensive plans, timelines, budgets, reports and outcomes for agreed upon events and Village-based community-outreach efforts, and provide staff support for these events. In all of these endeavors, it is essential that communications strategies and projects are consistent with the expectations of the Focus Group, CVUSA’s leadership body, and performed in collaboration primarily with the development team, and other departments as needed.

Position requirements: Bachelor’s degree; three (3) years working in communications/PR or development/events with a demonstrated track record; demonstrated effective presence; excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills necessary to interact with a variety of internal and external constituencies; demonstrated competency in information management systems, including software specific to functional responsibilities; demonstrated ability to interact positively in varying social environments; flexibility in work hours.
