"Camphill Village is a hidden gem for adults with developmental disabilities and for those who believe in total inclusion. Touring its workshops, you meet people who take pride in their meaningful work. Visiting the houses, you see the quality of care and the full life encouraged by the all-volunteer caregivers. The gardens and grounds reflect a reverence for the Earth and our environment. The Village is a model for alternative care in this field, and I am proud to call New York its home."
--First Lady of New York Michelle Paige Paterson
Camphill Village USA, Inc. is an intentional community
for adults with developmental disabilities (villagers), co-workers, and their children. Located in the verdant rolling hills outside of Copake, NY, the Village is a model in life-sharing communities. Founded by Karl Konig, the Camphill Movement is inspired by anthroposophy—the philosophy, world view, and spiritual path of Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925).
Village life provides extended family homes, interesting and challenging work options in various workshops, on the land, and in the homes, along with social
and cultural opportunities. A leader in biodynamic agriculture, Camphill Village’s gardens and farm reflect the cyclical aspect of nature that coincides with community festivals. The Village is a model for sustainable living and social renewal.
Camphill Village is the perfect place for adults with developmental disabilities who can thrive in an environment that encourages lives of responsibility and independence through social therapy and traditional therapies. A fully staffed and recently expanded medical office provides on-site care for villagers and co-workers.
Two care houses offer additional care and attention to aging villagers who have special medical needs.
Life at Camphill Village is based on the active affirmation of the dignity, spiritual integrity, and valued contribution of each individual.
