Camphill Village USA is a unique, vibrant community of 250 individuals, some of whom have developmental disabilities (villagers). Founded in Copake, New York in 1961, Camphill Village USA is the oldest and largest Camphill community in North America and sits on 615 acres of verdant hills, pastures, and beautiful gardens in southern Columbia County. Camphill Village is part of the international Camphill Movement, which is based on the insights of anthroposophy, the philosophy, world view, and spiritual path of Rudolf Steiner Ph.D. Life at Camphill Village is based on the active affirmation of the dignity, spiritual integrity, and valued contribution of each individual.

Pianst Pei-Yeh Tsai and Cellist Rebecca Hartka Perform Colorful Music of the Americas at Camphill Village!

 

On Friday, February 3rd at 7:30 pm, Rebecca Hartka and pianist Pei-Yeh Tsai will present a concert of music from the American continent at Camphill Village “Music of the Americas”. The duo will present this concert in only three East Coast venues.

The program will feature a wide range of styles, from the late Romanticism of Amy Beach and Edward MacDowell, the searing contemporary beauty of Barber to the Spanish influenced Cuban composer Joaquin Nin, and a beloved tango by Argentinian/NewYorker Astor Piazzolla. The duo will also present the world premiere of a cello and piano work entitled: “…on top of frosted hill…” by up and coming young American composer Anthony Green.

The concert will begin 7:30 p.m. in Fountain Hall, 84 Camphill Road, Copake, NY. Admission is $10 adults, $5 children & seniors, and $20 for families. Free admission is offered for members of the Camphill community. Please call 518-329-4851 for more information.

About the musicians:

Active as a soloist, chamber musician and educator, cellist Dr. Rebecca Hartka released her debut CD Folkfire in October 2010, receiving critical acclaim as well as NPR play including a feature on Paul Elisha’s Performance Place . During her international debut tour of Southeast Asia, a performance in Vietnam was reviewed as “.... no less than magical and eloquent.”  As comfortable in a symphony hall as a folk club, Hartka has appeared in venues such as the Rockwood Music Hall in New York and Club Passim in Cambridge. In 2009-10 Hartka appeared as a solo recitalist in the Exploring the Arts series, the 88 Keys series, and the Jazz and More series, among others. Hartka earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts and Masters in Music from Boston University College of Fine Arts and her Bachelor of Arts in Music from Oberlin College and Conservatory studying with Andor Toth, Rhonda Rider and Leslie Parnas among others.

Award winning pianist Pei-yeh Tsai, has appeared in such prestigious venues as the Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, the Rachmaninoff Hall in Moscow and the Taipei National Concert Hall in Taiwan. Tsai is the winner of numerous awards including the Viardo International Piano Competition, the New England Chamber Music Ensemble Competition and the Iowa International Piano Competition. In  2011, Ms. Tsai appeared in concerts at the Tribeca Performance center in New York City, at the Art Complex museum outside Boston as part of their concert series, and at Berklee College in Boston premiering four composers’ new works that were written exclusively for her. Tsai studied at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University with Boris Slutsky; subsequently receiving a Master’s degree in Piano Performance from the Juilliard School under the tutelage of Jerome Lowenthal. Currently at Boston University, Ms. Tsai will be graduating in December 2011 with a Doctorate of Musical Arts in piano performance.
